"As someone who has been an at-home exerciser for many years, I can’t overstate the value of working with a personal trainer.  Building strength has been my goal for the last several years.  I felt like I made progress quickly on my own at first, but then I got stuck.  I have been trying to get strong enough to do a pull up for quite some time.  I had major back surgery in 1994 that has left me with 10 fused vertebrae.  I felt like I had been able to build up my back muscles reasonably well after this surgery, but I remained unable to do a pull-up.  It wasn’t until I started working with Whitney that I realized what the problem was.  Having someone else to watch my form has made such a difference.  It turns out since I can’t bend my back, I hadn’t been working the inner back muscles near my spine.  Since I started personal training, I have learned how to activate these muscles and begin to strengthen them.  I am basically starting from scratch with these muscles so it may be a while before I achieve my goal of doing a pull-up, but I can tell that my back is stronger and my posture has improved.  We have moved on to working on my bench press technique and this is also beginning to improve significantly.  Despite my best efforts, I was not using correct form when bench pressing at home.  I was using more weight then than I am now, however, I was not strengthening my muscles in the appropriate motion.  I am looking forward to continuing to work on building strength correctly which will help keep me healthy and strong in the long term.  If I had not started training with Whitney, I may have become discouraged and given up completely.  I can’t wait to keep getting stronger!"      -Katrina M.

"I’ve taken a lot of physical conditioning lessons over the years— skiing, golfing, weightlifting,  etc. That has exposed me to a variety of physical conditioning instructors. I found the best of them had something in common: the ability to spot the one thing that sits at the core of what you need to improve, and then give you visualizations and exercises and feedback to fix it.  The immediate improvement you feel keeps you motivated to keep getting better.

That’s why at CBRC I choose Whitney as my conditioning coach. She is one of the best of the instructors I've had -- at CBRC or elsewhere."      - Jay R.

"I started my journey of getting back into shape almost a year ago. I knew my biggest hurdle was actually getting to the gym so I decided to sign up for a personal trainer to force me to go. I was matched up with Whitney Patterson and during our first meeting, I told her a few things that wouldn’t work for me; such as a scale and I didn’t need a cheerleader. The scale is my worst enemy and I knew if I had weekly weigh-ins then I would focus on losing weight more than anything else and that has never worked for me long term. The other was I didn’t want a cheerleader for a trainer. I knew my personality and I needed someone to tell me what it is I needed to do and then let me do it. Whitney was more than willing to accommodate my needs.

Whitney has worked out wonderfully for me. I meet with her multiple times a week and yet I don’t think I have ever done the same workout twice. She can tell the days that I really don’t want to be there and offers more encouragement on those days, which I really do appreciate. She is very skilled in what she does and I have yet to have a session where I am not dripping sweat by the end of it. She is very knowledgeable about the different things we do and if I ever have a question she almost always has an answer. Anytime she introduces something new to my workout she explains what muscles I am working and the benefits I will get from doing it. For example, I dread doing squats, lunges and split squats but she reminds me that when I get older these will help me get off of the couch, so I do them. Whitney seems to really enjoy what she does and understands where I am out fitness wise. She pushes me when I need it but I never walk away thinking that workout was just too much.

I would recommend Whitney as a trainer to anyone who needs a positive, knowledgeable and energetic person to help them with their fitness journey.      -Becky M.

"Hi, my name is Mike Hache and I am a member of CBRC.  I have taken golf conditioning at CBRC for the last couple of years.  Last year I attributed a drop in my golf handicap to the golf conditioning.  This year I am halfway through the second session.  Already this year, I believe the improvement of my core strength improved my golf swing, resulting in longer drives and improved accuracy off the tee.   The core strength improvement could be felt in the abs, hips, and upper legs.  I highly recommend golf conditioning to prepare for a new year of golf and if you can take two class per week, I think that makes all the difference.      -Mike H.

"Having Whitney as a personal trainer has been a great investment for me. I travel a lot for work and she helped me figure out great workouts that I can take on the road with me. When I am home, she makes sure to vary workouts to make them fun and challenging. With her guidance, I've dropped almost 2 pant sizes and improved my overall fitness level substantially."      -Jennifer W.

"It's been a long time since I've golfed and this year it's time to golf every Friday.  The Golf Conditioning Class announcement at the club caught my eye.  I signed up not knowing anything about what it entailed, maybe swing tips and how not to hurt yourself!  Ha…what a fun surprise and special bonus to find out Whitney was certified by the ISSA and indeed a master at conditioning.  I had no idea that at the end of eight sessions, I would be not only ready for golf but ready to hit the course with confidence.  It's time to have serious fun, but it's also time to be serious about being in shape on and off the course.  It's a life long goal and with a professional trainer like Whitney, it's possible to enjoy the sport of golf and the game of life.  I cannot thank her enough for getting me ready to play!"      -Linda M.

"Working full time with 3 children it is hard to find the time to do the gym. Having a trainer keeps me consistent and accountable. Whitney has been flexible when I have had to cancel due to sick children or other commitments. She never bats an eye and just continues where we left off. She listens and lets me whine while continue to build confidence in me that I can continue.  She is prompt in responding when I have contacted her outside of our time together.  She is knowledgeable and always willing to answer my questions.  She has taught me a lot and opened my eyes to the complication of all you need to know to do it right.  She is kind but tough. She has a quiet confidence about her."      -Kirsten M.

"I started training with Whitney about 7 months ago. I had not worked out in many months and was nervous but Whitney is an amazing personal trainer! She listens to your needs and specifically tailors your workouts. She is patient and very professional. She also mixes up the routines so they’re always fun and challenging at the same time. She is intense and precise with your sessions and watches closely and monitors your progress.  After a 3 month break from the gym due to a car accident, I am back to square one. However, after only two weeks back, I am confident that Whitney will continue to help me achieve my new goals! I would highly recommend Whitney for anyone who wants to get fit and have a great time while trying to achieve their fitness or weight loss goal!"      -Judith S.
